The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)
When seeking research funding, many researchers and research managers write research proposals to the European Commission (EC) each year. Typically, the total amount of funding requested in response to a Call exceeds the available research funding by a factor of 5 to 10, depending on the Programme, implying an average success rate of 10 to 20%.
True, a great deal of information for writing research proposals, and surrounding FP7 grants is available and easily accessible through the Internet, mostly free of charge. This information is published either directly by the Commission services, eg Cordis or by associations, universities, and consultants.
While this free information may be useful, it also is scattered among many different sources. Moreover, there is a lot of overlap which makes it difficult to find new FP7 facts, whilst wading through the tenth document or visiting the twentieth website. Additionally, it is difficult to assess whether the FP7 information is up-to-date.
